The Story Of You And Me

You ripped out a part of your soul
just so you could try and heal mine...
A butterfly with a broken wing,
I was afraid to fly away again
and so I stayed
just a little too long -
I grew just a little too strong.
I learned to sing all over again
but this time in a different key
(and so goes the story of you and me)
My ballad became your requiem.
I stayed a little too long -
and like tearing the flesh from your tongue
away from that splintered frost on silver,
it hurt when I left -
and a part of myself stuck there.
Hardly an even trade
for the piece of you that will remain a part of me
(and so goes the story of you and me)
