Has anyone else seen this movie (the new one) yet? I got out to see it on Saturday, and I rather liked it. It's certainly a lot stranger than "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" was, but I also liked it more.

No, I haven't seen it, but not because it doesn't look good. I simply detest going to the movie theaters; it's easier, and cheaper, for me just to rent it when it comes out on DVD.

The idea of the movie doesn't really appeal to me, probably because I don't much care for the original too much.
Great Wyrm: there are some movies worth getting out to a theater for, if only for the screen and the sound system. Mostly its action movies (or movies that have a fair bit of action), so I guess if that's not your thing, I can see why you'd stay away.

I like action movies when I'm in the mood to sit back and just watch stuff get shot/blown up. The thing is, there's not really any reason to see any NEW ones; I can just turn on the TV and there's usually something like that on. Saves me a trip to the theater and about ten bucks.

I usually try and avoid movie theaters for a variety of reasons. One is the expense; it was $9 for one ticket when I saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," $8 when I saw the last "Star Wars." If I waited, I could rent it for $5 and then more than one person could watch without making it more expensive.
Another is people; I don't know why people think that movie theaters are a good place to carry on conversations, and I don't know why some people feel the need to explain the whole movie to the person next to them (this group, inevitably, it always seated within three rows of me). Then there are people who decide that it's fun to yell at the screen, or to everyone in the theater. And I'm paying for this?

That said, I'm with Lerins that there are some movies for which the theater experience is worth it. "Lord of the Rings" is one example. For me, "Star Wars" was another (I saw all of the prequels on their opening nights, the 12:01am shows). Sometimes I'm also just impatient and don't want to wait, hence my going out to the theater for this one (well, it's one of the reasons). It'll be the same reason I go out to the movie theater to see "Corpse Bride" when it comes out.

I liked both movies, and since becoming a time traveler, I can tell you that 'Corpse Bride' won't disappoint you if you like Tim Burtons' stuff.
