When you write, what type of writing do you usually do? Fantasy? Horror? Sci-fi? Drama?

Most of the inspirations I get for writing are for overly elaborate fantasy stories with intricate plotwork over a large number of pages. I don't the have time, or the motivation, to sit down and plan enough out in advance to keep a story consistent, so I never actually write any of these.

Lately, I've wanted to write some short stories. That way, at least, I'd force myself to keep it short and simpler than previous ideas. Having never done any short story writing, though, I find it difficult to come up with a concept that I could take from a starting point, tell a short story about, and finish with a sense that something worthwhile happened.

And occassionally, I just end up putting words down and seeing where they end up. This (start of a) story was from an idea I got into my head as I was trying to fall asleep. I sat up, grabbed my laptop, and typed that out. Hopefully, I'll get around to adding to that, once I figure out where it's going.

I don't know if I stick to any particular genre. Usually, I introduce a character and then sort of delve into their personality and life experience in a short story form.

For myself when I write prose I normally write either semi-horror or humour. I do not write prose so often now because I find that time gets shorter the older I am so I will maybe scribble out a poem in around half an hour, then leave it, return to polish it or re-phrase it and then post it, all in one day.

Recently I've found myself writing science-fiction comedy stories, something I used to do back when I was in middle school but haven't in nearly ten years now. Science-fiction, though, is pretty much all I write.

Right now I'm adapting a short film my friends and I made last year into story form. The film is supposed to be horror, but unintentionally some comedy ensued. I guess you could sort of call the outcome a spoof of horror films, though that was never really the intention. In any case, I hope to bring out the characters a little bit more in the story than was done in the film.

Sometimes it's the mood, and then I reflect on it. Sometimes it's like acting, where I create the mood and reflect on it. Sometimes I'm not in the mood, and so I reflect on that. With me, there has never been and never will be a situation known to some as "writer's block".
No such thing.
Just write about the idea of not being able to write...at the very least.
