http://www.nanowrimo.org/

Since I wish I'd heard about this earlier last year, I feel I should pass it along to anyone who's interesting. NaNoWriMo (short for National Novel Writing Month) is basically a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in one month (from November 1 to November 30). There are prizes for actually doing it, but I look at it more as a kick in the pants to get writing, even if 50,000 words is too many for you.

Is anyone else planning giving this a shot this year?

It's a bit much for me, and it comes during a bad month, with a few days off to visit family for Thanksgiving and all. I might use it an excuse to try to work on a short story or two, and maybe some more poetry, but a 50,000 word novel is a bit out of my league.

Well, it's underway, and I'm off to an average start so far; I got 1,669 words done on the first day (the "daily average" to reach 50,000 by the end of the month is 1,667).

I intend to post daily updates of my progress here. I just put up Day One a little bit ago.

It may not have been yesterday, but whatever came of it all?
